Just over 9 weeks until the start of the 2022 Yukon Arctic Ultra – how did that creep up on me?

on

I’ve been doing some training but, as always, not enough. Two very different training rides yesterday …

Morning ride …

Evening ride

In 12 hours the world was transformed. The evening ride brought back so many emotional memories – the crunch of snow under the tyres, the pistol-shot crack of ice breaking, the fear of what might be under the snow, the discomfort of riding over footprints, the sparkle of ice crystals in the head torch, the silence and the sheer joy of being alone on a snowy trail at night.

Will the 2022 race happen? I’ve no idea but right now I’m just grateful for last night’s ride in the snow.
