The ride of my life

February 2015 saw me on the start line of the Yukon Arctic Ultra once again this time to attempt all 430 miles by bike. Pre-race training had been totally inadequate, I’d had many health issues including glaucoma, and had only been cleared to race days before the start. But it was a privilege to be there as race chaplain, and my hope for the race was just to keep going as long as I could. It was cold at the start, colder than anything I’d ever experienced.

The race brought many trials and tribulations, highs and lows, difficulties and miracles. But, by the grace of God, 10 days after the start I crossed the finish line. The only woman ever to complete the race on a bike, and the second woman to complete the race by any means. Still can’t quite believe it but the story is here …
